FFmpeg: How to remove audio from video?

2013-12-13 Software

Sometimes you may need to have a silent video for web development reasons (you build new website with “video in background plugin). Sound can be very annoying and it should be removed. How to remove sound from any video file?

Let’s use FFmpeg. Powerful, command line tool. You should find FFmpeg in your Ubuntu. Simple command goes like that:

ffmpeg -i input_file.mp4 -an -vcodec copy output_file.mp4

Input file is the name of video where you want to remove audio layer. Output_file.mp4 will be saved in your working directory (use pwd command to check it).

To change format I’ve used Transmageddon but you can use FFmpeg as well. Check my article about converting videos using FFmpeg.
